about

This site is the home of John Smith, a Microsoft certified C# software developer based in Oxfordshire.

I used to be a freelance DevOps engineer and software developer and was recently the head of infrastructure and operations (DevOps) at a company called passle.

However, I no longer do this and am now my mother's full-time carer and am trying to train to do a boxing match for charity this year which is difficult on £62.10 a week carers allowance.

I have set up a go fund me page to help with my training and to look after my mother and also my brother who is also ill after suffering a stroke.

So I am doing the decent thing and looking after family first.

Any donations, however, small are welcome via my go fund me page which you can access via the link below.

I do still try and keep my hand in all things tech and code and I develop on Mac OSX and am happy to look outside the Microsoft stack where it makes sense and my current toolset includes various technologies:
  • Amazon AWS Web Services
  • Amazon EC2
  • Amazon ELB
  • MySql
  • Mercurial
  • Memcached
  • TeamCity
  • Octopus Deploy
  • IndexTank
  • IIS
  • MongoDB
  • Apache Tika
  • Vagrant
  • Node
  • erlang
  • elixir
  • Ruby
  • Chef
  • Xamarin Studio
  • Service Stack

My time was currently split between code and devops related work which I find very rewarding and I try to blog where I can about things I come across or find interesting and anything currently on my tech radar about all things development devops and from time to time comedy and things I find amusing.
